Course Overview

Bringing together experienced professionals, a world-class faculty, and dynamic curricula, the National League for Nursing's (NLN) New Nurse Educator Faculty Role Certificate Program provides learning opportunities for new nurse educators who desire to learn more about introductory concepts of teaching and the role of the nurse educator.

What you will learn

Each participant will have the opportunity to: 

1. Describe the faculty competencies associated with the role of the academic nurse educator in the educational environment.

2. Facilitate the transition of the new academic nurse educator from practice to academia.

3. Prepare the new academic educator to function effectively within the educational environment.

4. Describe faculty role and responsibilities related to teaching in the classroom setting (face-to-face, blended, and online).

5. Prepare the new academic nurse educator to assume classroom teaching responsibilities.

6. Describe faculty role and responsibilities related to teaching in the clinical environment.

7. Prepare the new academic nurse educator to assume clinical teaching responsibilities.

8. Describe faculty competencies related to assessing and evaluating student learning outcomes in the classroom and clinical setting.

9. Prepare the new academic nurse educator to use assessment and evaluation strategies to determine the achievement of student learning outcomes.

10. Describe faculty competencies related to curriculum design and program evaluation.

11. Prepare the new academic nurse educator to participate in curriculum design and program evaluation activities.

Who is this course intended for?

Open to novice and veteran faculty. 

What are the course expectations and progression?

The course is self-paced with each module taking up to 1 hour to complete.  It is recommended that learners take on module per week.  Each module contains content and a brief interactive learning activity for the learner to share insights and ideas on how they are incorportating technology into their teaching and learning and learn from others taking the course asynchronously. 

What kind of technology is required?

Learners will need access to a computer, tablet, or smart phone to complete the course.
